The UK has some of the strictest — and clearest — gambling payment rules in Europe. Two things matter for Revolut users specifically: the 2020 credit card gambling ban, and what a UKGC licence actually guarantees. Neither is covered well by generic guides, so here's the UK-specific detail.
Looking for a Revolut-friendly casino?
Compare Casinos ↗Does the credit card gambling ban affect Revolut?
Since 14 April 2020, the Gambling Commission has prohibited UK-licensed operators from accepting credit cards for any form of remote gambling (Licence Condition 6.1.2 of the LCCP). The ban does not touch debit cards — that distinction was deliberate, to stop people gambling with borrowed money rather than restrict payment methods generally.
A Revolut card is a debit/prepaid card, not a credit card — you're spending money you've already loaded or hold in your account, not borrowing from Revolut. That means the 2020 ban simply doesn't apply to Revolut deposits. Some UK banks additionally let customers switch on a voluntary merchant-category block for gambling transactions on their own debit cards; Revolut has its own version of this, covered in our gambling block guide.
What a UKGC licence actually means
Any casino legally targeting UK players needs a licence from the Gambling Commission — you can check a specific operator's licence number against the Commission's public register before depositing anywhere. A licence brings mandatory responsible-gambling tools (deposit limits, self-exclusion via GAMSTOP), segregation of player funds in some cases, and a formal complaints route if a payout dispute arises — protections you don't get at an unlicensed offshore site.
Financial Risk Assessments — the checks most players never notice
Officially called Financial Risk Assessments (the term "affordability checks" is what most players actually call them), these came into force in phase one from February 2026. Once your net losses cross £150 within a rolling 30-day period at a licensed operator, it must run an automated, frictionless background check using credit-reference data — no documents requested, no pause in play, and it doesn't affect your credit score. The Gambling Commission's own pilot data put this at roughly 97% of checks completing invisibly, with fewer than 3% of accounts ever triggering anything further.
Above that light-touch level, an enhanced check kicks in for sustained high spenders — this can mean the operator actually asking for evidence like bank statements or payslips before letting deposits continue at the same level. Exact enhanced thresholds aren't fully settled publicly yet and may vary by operator pending phase two of the rollout later in 2026, so treat any specific higher figure you see quoted elsewhere as provisional rather than fixed.
Online slot stakes are capped — and it's stricter under 25
Since 9 April 2025, UK-licensed online slots have a maximum stake of £5 per spin for players 25 and over, tightened to £2 per spin for players aged 18–24 from 21 May 2025 — a formal licence condition, not something a casino can opt out of. It applies specifically to online slots; table games like roulette and blackjack aren't covered by this particular limit. The same reform package banned autoplay, turbo spins and slam-stops on slots, and enforces a 5-second minimum between spins — all aimed at the same target as the frictionless checks above: slowing down the highest-risk product on a casino site.
Revolut itself is now a licensed UK bank
Separately from gambling regulation: Revolut received a full UK banking licence from the PRA/FCA in March 2026, meaning UK Revolut balances now carry FSCS protection up to £120,000 — the same deposit protection scheme that covers traditional high-street banks. This doesn't change anything about casino payments specifically, but it's relevant if you're deciding whether to hold spending money in Revolut at all.
The rest of the 2025-26 reform package
A few more changes worth knowing about, all stemming from the same 2023 Gambling Act Review White Paper: since 31 October 2025, every operator must prompt new customers to set a financial limit before their very first deposit, and accounts without one get a reminder every six months. Since 19 December 2025, bonus wagering requirements are capped at 10x and "mixed-product" promotions (bundling a casino bonus with a sports bet, for instance) are banned. And since April 2025, operators pay a statutory levy of 0.1–1.1% of gross gambling yield — replacing the old voluntary contribution system — which raised close to £120 million in its first year for gambling research, prevention and treatment.

Can I use a Revolut debit card at a UK casino despite the 2020 ban?
Yes — the ban only covers credit cards. A Revolut debit/prepaid card was never affected by Licence Condition 6.1.2.
How do I check if a casino actually holds a UKGC licence?
Look up the operator's licence number on the Gambling Commission's public register at gamblingcommission.gov.uk — don't just trust a badge on the casino's own site.
Does Revolut's new banking licence protect my casino winnings?
FSCS protection covers money held in your Revolut account (up to £120,000), same as any UK bank. It has nothing to do with whether a casino itself pays out — that protection comes from the casino's own licence and funds-handling requirements.
How do I deposit at a UK casino using Revolut?
Same as any card payment: enter your Revolut card number, expiry and CVV at the casino's deposit screen, confirm with 3D Secure, and it lands instantly. Full step-by-step in our deposit guide.
Is it safe to use Revolut for casino transactions in the UK?
Mechanically yes — Revolut is FCA-authorised and deposits use standard 3D Secure fraud protection. Overall safety also depends on the casino itself holding a genuine UKGC licence, which is worth checking separately (see above).
What fees does Revolut charge at UK gambling sites?
None from Revolut for a standard card deposit. Since most UK-facing casinos run accounts in GBP and a UK Revolut account is also GBP by default, currency exchange fees usually don't come into it at all — see our fees guide for when they would.
Are there restrictions on gambling transactions with challenger banks like Revolut?
No FCA-level restriction beyond the standard 2020 credit card ban, which doesn't apply to Revolut's debit/prepaid cards anyway. Challenger banks aren't treated differently from traditional banks for gambling payments.
What's the fastest way to withdraw casino winnings in the UK?
UKGC licensing requires operators to pay out winnings without unreasonable delay, but the Revolut leg itself is quick regardless — card refunds and bank transfers both typically clear within hours once the casino processes them. Realistic timeframes are in our withdrawal guide.
Which UK casinos accept Revolut?
We don't list or rank specific casinos on this hub — that comparison, tested for Revolut acceptance, lives on BestRevCasino, our dedicated comparison site.
Will a Financial Risk Assessment show up on my credit report?
No — the Gambling Commission has stated these checks use soft credit-reference signals and don't affect your credit score, similar to a soft search rather than a hard one.
Do the slot stake limits apply to table games too?
No — the £5/£2 caps are specific to online slots. Roulette, blackjack and other table games aren't covered by this particular licence condition.
